Blog #6 - Educational Technology End of Semester Reflections

Image
As I conclude this transformative experience of incorporating technology into K-6 education, I reflect on the profound shifts and insights that have unfolded during this course. Embracing technology has not only made me more tech-savy but has also empowered me to craft-lessons that captivate and engage students. Witnessing heightened motivation and enthusiam amoung students when technology is seamlessly integrated into lessons has been truly remarkable.      My perspective on technology's role in the classroom has undergone a significant transformation. Initially cautious due to concerns about potencial technological glitches, time consuming log-ins, and troubleshooting issues, I also wondered how it would align with diverse learning needs in K-6 settings. However, as the course unfolded, I discovered the versatility of digital technologies in catering to the unique strengths and needs of each learner. Through practical appli...

Using Scratch to Investigate Refraction! Link to my Lesson Plan     Scratch coding is an excellent application to incorporate into your teaching plans. Scratch fosters engagement, creativity and problem-solving skills among students. It introduces them to computational thinking, laying the foundation for computer science concepts. Scratch projects can span across subjects, enabling cross-disciplinary learning. Its accessibility and user-friendly interface make it suitable for all ages. I have created a lesson relating to the Grade 4 science unit Light and Shadows,  where students use Scratch to explore how refraction works involving the bending and dispersion of light.

Blog #3 - Creation App Mini-Lesson

My partner and I created a mini-lesson using an engaging and interactive app that contains many fun games that teach math concepts such as addition, subtraction, sorting, geometry and more! This app is called Moose Math and you can download it for free on the app store! It is a great way to integrate technology into your lessons for young learners.      We chose this app to teach math to grade 1 students, where they focused on identifying familiar shapes and sorting them according to one attribute. We found that this is a great way for young students to connect with math concepts. The app prompts students through sound or by reading the instructions on their own. Another positive aspect of this app is that it encourages students to strive for the correct answer before progressing to the next activity, without making them feel discouraged or defeated in the process. We also love how it motivates each student when they complete a level as they are able...

Recently, I created a Twitter profile, which had me thinking about how it could be used as a dynamic tool in the classroom to enhance student learning. This platform could act as a focal point for important announcements to students and parents, interactive learning, and stimulating debates. Students can actively participate in discussions, share resources, and have Q&A sessions by creating a feeling of community through the use of hashtags that are exclusive to their courses. I would take advantage of Twitter's many capabilities to promote peer cooperation, reflective practice and the distribution of useful materials. Through a thoughtful integration of Twitter, I could create a more interactive and connected learning environment that prepares students for the challenges of our digital age.
